Balboa is a partnered swing dance that originated in the 1930s in Southern California. Join us to learn the basics and start your journey social dancing! In this ongoing weekly progressive lesson we will teach you the basics of balboa and get you out on the dance floor. No experience or partner necessary.
We highly recommend registering for 3 lessons at a time using the Grover Beach Parks & Rec website. Our lessons build on each other and are best enjoyed in sets of three. We help beginners get started with the basics and build up & fine tune the skills of our intermediate dancers. Stick around afterwards to practice and enjoy 2 hours of social dancing on the beautiful floor of the Grover Beach Community Center!

Bridget and Robbie Hughes have been dancing together since 2011, when they met at weekly swing dance lessons. They both started in Lindy Hop but when Balboa was introduced it quickly became their favorite dance. They have learned from some of the best Balboa dancers, and strive to pass on the legacy that they have been gifted. Central Coast Balboa was established in 2023, and Bridget and Robbie enjoy teaching weekly lessons at Beach Break Swing, building personalized style teaching privates, and hosting workshops. They focus on the feel and flow of the dance, and are inspired by the original Balboa dancers.
If they are not on the dance floor in their local scene, a jazz festival, or at a weekender, they are spending time with their two children, family, and friends.
